The Government House grounds embrace 36 acres, including a rare Garry Oak ecosystem, and formal gardens. All formal gardens are wheelchair accessible and are maintained thanks to the time and expertise of dedicated volunteers. The grounds are open daily to the public from dawn to dusk, free of charge.

Dr. Helmcken, a surgeon with the Hudson’s Bay Company, set up house in Victoria when he married the daughter of Governor James Douglas in 1852. He went on to negotiate the entry of BC into Canada. His medical kit is among the interesting items on display. Nearby is St Ann’s Schoolhouse, built 1844.
Hours:Helmcken House will be closed for installation of fire suppression equipment and for other maintenance work until late May 2011.

Located across from historic Ross Bay Cemetery, Ross Bay Villa is a modest but now rare Gothic Revival 1860s colonial house with restored period rooms and gardens. Frank Roscoe, a Member of Parliament for Victoria from 1874-78, and his family, were the first to move into the home in 1864.
TLC is BC's leading charitable land trust, known as BC's National Trust.
