CFB Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum is housed in 19th century heritage buildings that are now part of a National Historic District, showcasing the history of the military presence on, and defence of, Vancouver Island.
Open 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Mon-Fri (winter), week-long in summer (closed statutory holidays)

Step right into the 1850s at the oldest schoolhouse in Western Canada and the elegant Farmhouse. Operated by The Land Conservancy of BC, this historic site features guided tours of beautifully restored and authentically furnished buildings along with hands-on activities for the whole family.
Open May through September. Tours by reservation the rest of the year.

Dr. Helmcken, a surgeon with the Hudson’s Bay Company, set up house in Victoria when he married the daughter of Governor James Douglas in 1852. He went on to negotiate the entry of BC into Canada. His medical kit is among the interesting items on display. Nearby is St Ann’s Schoolhouse, built 1844.
Hours:Helmcken House will be closed for installation of fire suppression equipment and for other maintenance work until late May 2011.
